UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN MULTIDISCIPLINARY CENTRAL RESEARCH LABORATORY

The University of Ibadan Multidisciplinary Central Research Laboratory (MCRL) supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and equipped with modern, state-of-the-art equipment for cutting-edge research in the biological, chemical, physical, agricultural, environmental and medical sciences was established by the University of Ibadan in response to the dearth of expensive, specialized, state-of–the-art equipment needed for research at the cutting edge and the problems of poor management and inadequate infrastructures and security that have constrained the growth and sustainability of research facilities in the past. The concept of centralization enables the pooling of scarce resources for efficient management and sustainable development through the provision, at one location, of adequate security, infrastructures, including water and electricity, and an environment conducive to the operation and use of expensive, highly sensitive equipment including good lighting and effective control of heat, humidity and dust.

Location
The MCRL is located in the Abadina area of the University, next to the University Conference Centre and directly opposite the National Archives of Nigeria Zonal Office. The main laboratory is a storey building (two floors) with several wings. Attached to it is a fully equipped Wet Laboratory for preliminary, preparative laboratory work.
